We had a wonderful time at our cousin Nia's wedding in Biddeford Pool, Maine. We spent a lot of time hanging out with the family, playing at the beach and eating lobster rolls. The wedding itself was beautiful, and with some help from maid of honor Auntie Zoe, Amelia did a great job as a flower girl. It was a truly great weekend, and we were sad when we had to jump in the car to head back to Boston to catch our flight back to Seattle. Hopefully, we'll be able to make it back to Maine sometime soon, maybe even next summer!
On our way to Maine in late July for Nia's wedding, we spent a couple of days in Boston during a 104 degree heat wave. To beat the heat, Amelia and Soren spent a long time running through the sprinklers with their friend Zoe before eating a delicious barbeque dinner.
The kids proved to be great travelers, making their way across Greece on planes, buses, boats and cars. But as you'll see below, 11 hour flights and 5 hour ferry trips are MUCH easier when chocolate milk and ipads are involved...
While we were away, Amelia turned 4 and Soren turned 2. Soren quickly learned he could stretch out the celebration by telling pretty Greek waitresses it was his birthday, even when it wasn't anymore!
Athens was a fascinating city with lots to do and see, but a also a bit challenging with kids. The sites were crowded and hot, and getting around required a lot more walking than on the islands. On the plus side, the Acropolis was truly amazing (especially the view from the rooftop bar of the hotel at night), we had some excellent meals, and the kids had fun spotting all the stray cats running around the city (ask Soren to tell you about the cat on the motorcycle!).
The highlight of the trip for us was the island of Naxos, which was just a bit sleepier and more relaxing than the other spots we visited. St George's beach has a great shallow bay, and a little farther out, Plaka beach was gorgeous and uncrowded. Lots of good food too!
